Description

Amazing unrestored hitched horsehair prison bridle, in the exact condition we found it in, in a barn in southeastern Wisconsin. It was decided to offer it unrestored, leaving the option of leaving it as found or of risking a restoration up to the buyer. A rare find, especially of this quality, it deserves to be the centerpiece of your collection!
Horsehair hitching is intricately done and nearly completely undamaged, though it has faded. The reins are mostly complete, the romal appears to have been chewed off by something in the barn and the reins were rolled up for a long time so may take a while to relax. The many other tassels are complete and gorgeous!
4 original glass rosettes, 2 of them are in excellent condition while 2 are slightly damaged; the image is the head of a chestnut paint. See pictures of each.
The curb bit and slobber chain have surface rust but are otherwise intact and robust. They are appropriate for the period and are probably original.
There is an orange plastic or bakelite ring on the headband, we are unsure if this is a replacement but it is the only part that may not be original on the entire piece.
Details of estate sale where we found it are available for purposes of provenance upon request.
